DUNES

Sand dunes are stark, sensuous, and alluring. Here you can actually see and feel the earth reshaping itself, in ways that are less dramatic and threatening than volcanoes but no less captivating. Mention the word desert, and most people think of dunes. Yet, in all deserts of North America combined, dunes form less than 1% of the landscape.
