Sea scorpions (eurypterids) were the largest free-swimming creatures with
external skeletons of the Paleozoic era; some attained 3 meters (10 ft.)
in length and had huge pincers. This individual, Eurypterus remipes,
was found in Herkimer Co., New York, USA. Fossil courtesy of the
